The Rebellion’s New Years Resolutions

Stealing a great idea from Goal.com’s article on what each MLS club’s New Years Resolution should be, here’s some for the New England sports media.  We get it, they are demands and recommendations not resolutions…whatever!

1.  Revs Wrap on TV, not the internet.

As if soccer fans in New England don’t feel like second class citizens enough…so if we are watching the game at the local bar, enjoying a pint we have to run home to get on a computer to watch a game recap?  Laughable, and unsafe.  If it were a Celtics game there is a half hour of coverage pregame and guaranteed post game coverage.  Have you seen the crap that is on Comcast SportsNet after a Revs game?  You can’t tell me that gets higher ratings than a post game wrap up with Revs/MLS highlights.  Also, FYI when the Revs game leads in to “Comcast SportsNet Tonight” and there are no Revs highlights or mention of the game viewers just came from you look silly.

2.  NESN, C’mon man.

We started last year, and frankly we are not going to stop calling you out until the Revs have a tab on your website.  Don’t tell us the Revs aren’t relevant, because Liverpool is less relevant to New England sports.  Although funny enough once the The Empire of John Henry bought Liverpool, they and the English Premier League suddenly became relevant.  You clearly put content for other teams you don’t own.  Either put a tab for the New England Revolution/Major League Soccer or drop the name New England Sports Network because it’s false advertising.

Revs Anyone?

We will give props to Marcus Kwesi O’Mard, writer for the soccer section of the website.  Although it’s primarily for covering EPL and all things international he’s an avid, knowledgeable Revs fan who plays with us on Twitter (@NESNsoccer) and sneaks in a Revs story or two occasionally.  Marcus you have a free ticket, a beer and spot in the Fort on us saved for next year.  Eventually you will become  a double agent of ours, infiltrating NESN’s ranks and by years end the Revolution will have front page stories.

On Notice:  Providence Journal, you’re next.

3.  98.5 The Sports Hub to cover Revs as if they are professional sports team and not apologize when they do talk soccer.

We like those other teams too, but look I think everyone can use a break from the never ending cycle of analysis about complete non-stories in the world of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Pats.  When there’s a void in news you start talking about “what if” scenarios from 2002.  Please stop.  What if you took the time to learn a local professional sports team, and its league.  You know, that league that is third in average attendance that just signed that huge NBC Sports deal?  You guys broadcast the games for crying out loud, don’t you see the symbiotic relationship covering or hyping up the team whose game you will be carrying live later on?  And if you are nice enough to talk soccer, please don’t butcher the names.  I personally (@BMSchimmel) would love to come on your show and talk shop while defending the attacks that will surely come from using the same boring arguments against soccer.  What has the game done to deserve so much animosity?

DA Get Your Khakis In the Fort

4.  ”DA In The Fort” has to be done…from the Fort.

DA cut the crap and get in the Fort.  We like you, we want to show other people why they should like you.  It will only solidify you as the media Messiah for Revs fans.  In the meantime harass him on Twitter! @TheDAShow

It requires a far greater commitment to be a Revs fan than other fan in New England.   It’s about time you start rewarding us with some content and stop treating us like we are nerds watching a niche sport.  The argument will be made that the lack of coverage comes from a lack of interest.  If there was demand surely they’d provide coverage to compensate for it.  In this “chicken or egg” scenario I think that point is invalid.  We can guarantee if you provide more coverage it will obviously increase people’s interest and knowledge of the club and the sport.  We’ve done it your way for 16 years, how about you give our way a try?

In the meantime make sure you follow our friends on the Revs Blogosphere tab.  And always follow @NErebellion on Twitter and check us out on Facebook!
